SA213 TP317L Stainless Steel Tubes Properties and Character
SA213 TP317L Stainless Steel is a molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel with greatly increased resistance to chemical attack as compared to the conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel such as Alloy 304 and 316L. In addition, Alloy 317L offers higher creep, stress-to-rupture, and tensile strength at elevated temperature than normal stainless steels. 317L is a low carbon “L” grade which provides resistance to sensitization during welding and other thermal processes.
SA213 TP317L Stainless Steel is a low carbon version of 317 stainless steel. It possesses the same high strength and corrosion resistance and will produce stronger welds due to its low carbon content. SA213 TP317L is similar to 316L stainless steel but provides improved resistance to atmospheric corrosion, to many organic and inorganic acids and to food and beverages. 317L’s molybdenum content increases to 3 to 4% from the 2 to 3% in 316 and 316L. Many users are shifting over to this alloy in lieu of 304 and 316 as availability and cost improves.
Molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel which are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion than the normal chromium-nickel austenitic steel. SA213 TP317L is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but may become slightly magnetic as a result of welding.
SA213 TP317L Stainless Steel Properties:
- Molybdenum bearing austenitic chromium nickel steel with an alloy content somewhat higher than the 316L grades.
- Superior corrosion resistance in difficult environments.
- Higher creep, stress-to-rupture and tensile strengths than other stainless steel.
- Reduced intergranular precipitation of chromium carbides during welding and stress relieving as well as minimized possibility of corrosion failure from intergranular attack due to low carbon content.
- Resistance to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion making SA213 TP317L a successful life-cost product in a variety of highly corrosive environments.
