What is MW and What is AW?

MW is minimum wall thickness. Wall Thickness Tolerance in (-0, +20%) for OD 1-1/2″ [38.1mm] and under, in (-0, +22%) for OD over 1-1/2″ [38.1mm].

AW is Average Wall Thickness. Wall Thickness Tolerance in (-10%, +10%) for OD 1-1/2″ [38.1mm] and under, in (-11%, +11%) for OD over 1-1/2″ [38.1mm].

According to ASME SA213 Permissible Variations from the Speciﬁed Wall Thickness:

13.1 Permissible variations from the speciﬁed minimum wall thickness shall be in accordance with Speciﬁcation A1016/A1016M.
13.2 Permissible variations from the speciﬁed average wall thickness shall be +/-10 % of the speciﬁed average wall thickness for cold formed tubes and, unless otherwise speciﬁed by the purchaser.
