BS Aerospace S500 Chemical Composition Mechanical Properties
British Standard Aerospace products for sheets and strips have their own individual standard and are not summarized in a single Standard. The table shows most of the grade numbers that are commonly encountered.
BS '500' sheet and strip grades
Chemical Composition (Max, unless stated).
S, 0.025% and P, 0.035% maxima apply to all grades shown , except grade S538 where the P maximum is 0.030%
Tensile Strength (Min, unless stated)
Hardness HB (Max, unless stated)
Status; 'C' represents Current, 'W' represents Withdrawn
Treatments: CR = Cold Rolled ; CR+T = Cold Rolled and Tempered ; FHT = Final Heat Treatment ; S = SoftenedÂ
For heat treatable grades, only the Finally Heat Treated mechanical strength values are shown.
