12L14 free machining steel
AISI 12L14 is a Standard Resulfurized and Rephosphorized grade Carbon Steel. It is a free machining steel and is commonly called AISI 12L14 Lead Steel and may be referred to by the trade name Ledloy™. Lead has been added to the chemical composition to provide an improved level of machinability. Although machinability is excellent, the added lead content reduces the overall strength of this alloy. Applications include high-speed screw machine products, spindles, bushings, hose fittings and many other items where the superior machining characteristics of this steel can be fully utilized.
AISI 12L14 is a Standard Resulfurized And Rephosphorized grade Carbon Steel. It is commonly called AISI 12L14 Lead steel. It is composed of (in weight percentage) 0.15%(max) Carbon (C), 0.85-1.15% Manganese (Mn), 0.04-0.09% Phosphorus (P), 0.26-0.35% Sulfur (S), 0.15-0.35% Lead (Pb), and the base metal Iron (Fe). Other designations of AISI 12L14 carbon steel include UNS G12144 and AISI 12L14.
This alloy has lead added to the mix in order to enhance its machinability. In fact, it is rated with a machinability of 160% of AISI 1212 steel. The addition of lead does, however, reduce the strength of this alloy, although it is generally stronger than 1018. AISI 12L14 Leaded, also known as 230M07 Pb/EN1A Pb. A low carbon mild steel with added lead. Properties: free cutting, suitable for machining using both automatic and CNC machines. Available in square, round, flat or hexagon form.
