Specification of Incoloy 825 UNS N08825 Seamless Tubes
1.0 SCOPE:
This specification covers the requirements for seamless control line tubing made of A825 corrosionresistant alloy (UNS N08825, also known as Incoloy 825) to be used for subsurface safety valves, flow control valves and other equipment. This material is acceptable for use in sour environments inaccordance with NACE MR-01-75. This specification is used for both continuous coil tubing and for discrete straight lengths

3.0 REQUIREMENTS:
3.1. Material: Seamless tubing shall be made of A825 material. The tubing shall be in the
annealed or drawn and annealed condition.
3.2 Chemical Composition: The chemical composition shall conform to ASTM B-163, grade
N08825
3.3
3.4 Mechanical Tensile & Hardness Properties:
3.4.1 A tensile specimen shall be tested in accordance with ASTM A-370 from each coil of
tubing to assure compliance with mechanical properties shown below.
3.4.2 Mechanical Testing: Each coil of tubing shall be mechanically tested in accordance
with ASTM B-163 and ASTM B-704. To include:
3.4.2.1 Flaring test
3.4.2.2 Hardness test (Rockwell)
3.5 Dimensional Tolerances:
ASTM B-423 standard is used to define permissible variation in tubing outside diameter. For seamless tubing ±10% is acceptable. ASTM A-632 standard is used to define permissible variations in overall tubing wall thickness. A variation from nominal diameter of +0.003" is permissible for tubing below 0.188" diameter and +0.004" for tubing above 0.188" nominal diameter. In both cases the negative tolerance is 0.000".
3.6 Material Quality:
The material shall be free of injurious seams, laps or other
Imperfections, which due to their nature will interfere with the use of the material in final
usage of the part.
3.7 Pressure Testing: 3.7.1 Pressure testing shall be the means of qualification for continuous coils, longer than 20ft
3.7.2 Nitrogen pressure rating Test: Each coil of tubing shall be tested with nitrogen
under water at a test pressure of 1,000 psi (69 bars) for 5 minutes. This test is mandatory.
3.7.3 Hydrostatic pressure rating test: Each tube will be hydrostatically pressure
tested for 15 minutes only when test pressure is specified.
3.7.4 Acceptable coils shall show no loss of test pressure, or gas bubbles in the case of
gas pressure under water testing, after stabilization has been reached. The test
pressure of the tubing shall be reported on the certification.
Property Requirement
Tensile Strength, psi (MPa), minimum 80,000 (551)
Yield Strength, psi (MPa) , minimum 35,000 (241)
% Elongation in 2”, minimum 30
Hardness, HRb , maximum 95
3.8 Electrical Testing:
3.8.1 Eddy-current testing shall be the means of qualification for discrete tubes, 20 ft or
less in length.
3.8.2 Each length of tubing shall be electrically tested (eddy-current) in accordance with
ASTM E 571
3.9 Line Marking & Reel Marking:
Each tube and reel of tubing shall be weatherproof tagged or indelible marked with the material grade, part number, size and wall of tubing, length ,OD and Schlumberger purchase order number.
3.10 Product Marking:
Sequential marking is preferred every 5 feet (about 1.5m). The marking
interval may be lower than 5 feet but it shall not be higher. The marking shall specify, in the
following order of printing:
Incremental
Length Marking (1)
(2)
Tube
Thickness (3)
Tube
Material (4)
SLB P/N
(5)
Supplier S/N (6)
(1): Sequential marking shall be performed every 5 ft. (or less), starting at 0 ft. at the bottom of the
reel (at the beginning when the tubing is first wrapped around the reel).
(2): The word “Purchaser Name” shall be printed.
(3): Tube thickness to be printed may be: 0.049” or 0.065” etc.
(4): Tube material name to be printed may be: A825 seamless.
(5): Schlumberger part number shall be printed: PI.
(6): This Serial Number is the one that shall appear on the quality document (quality control plan
and certificate of compliance) attached with the reel shipment. This number shall enable
Schlumberger to recover all the manufacturing and quality details for a specific shipping reel
(7): The name of the supplier shall not be printed on the control line.
4.0 DOCUMENTATION AND RETENTION:
4.1 The following documentation and certification is required to be supplied with each heat of
material on each delivery. The information required below may be on separate certificates or
included on one certificate at the supplier’s discretion.
4.1.1 Certify that the chemical analysis is in accordance with ASTM B-163 (see 3.2).
4.1.2 Include a copy of mechanical tensile and hardness test results (see 3.3).
4.1.3 Include a copy of mechanical test results (see 3.3.2).
4.1.4 Certify eddy-current test results as applicable (see 3.7).
4.1.5 Certify Nitrogen gas test results as applicable (see 3.6.).
4.1.6 Certify Hydrostatic pressure rating test results if tested (see 3.6.2).
4.2 All required documentation shall be forwarded to Quality Assurance records after inspection is
completed.
