What are the Characteristics of High Quality Steel Pipe Manufacturers?




As a procurement manager, it is clear that you have your own set of criteria for choose a supplier. I have been working with Stainless Steel Pipes and tubes more than 10 years. I have many friends in this industry. Some time, I was been requested to help them to find good quality supplier. So at that time, I am a procurement manager also. The point I care about is the same with yours, Good Quality, Competitive Price, on Time Delivery. So How I evaluate them?

1. Business culture. The culture of the suppliers is very important. Do they put the Quality first? Do they want to built a long term business with you and their customer? Good Business Culture will make them stand with you when difficulty happen.

2. Certificate of Quality. If they get ISO 9001:2015, PED 2014/68/EU, ASME Boiler and Vessel Pressure Code, means their quality management system based on according to ISO 9001:2015 and PED 2014/68/EU. The quality control in production process is much more valuable than in finished process. Unqualified found in the production process will reduce the waste and save the time.

3. Testing Equipment. Advanced equipment is the guarantee of quality. 100% PMI will ensure the all the tubes in correct grade. 100% Hydrostatic Test and 100% Eddy current test will make the pipes and withstand the pressure of the boiler or heat exchanger. Direct Reading Spectrometer will make the chemical composition of raw material and finished tubes meet the specification request.

4. Raw material supplier. The quality of raw material determines the quality of finished tubes. Mostly, Stainless steel pipes and tubes will working in critical condition, in high temperature, in acid enviornments or seawater where corrosion happens. If the porocity grade of stainless steel raw material bad, if the impurity elements such as Phosphorus and Sulfur in higher percentage, if Nickel percentage lower than specification request. The corrosion resistance properties of Stainless Steel will greatly reduced. The service life of stainless steel tubes will be greatly short too.

5. Enterprise scale. The scale of the supplier is very important on price. Normally large company offer higher price than small scale company. But small scale company will lack of guarantee on finished the in reliable quality and on time delivery. So medium scale supplier will be your best choice.

6. Producing Equipment. The quantity and technical level of the producing equipment is both important. Advanced equipment is the guarantee of quality as I mentioned. The number of producing equipment determines whether it can be delivered on time.

7. Responsibility and ability of employees. Most equipments are operate by man. The quality of Stainless Steel tubing is decide by the responsibility and ability of the worker.
