Heat Treatment of 304L Stainless Steel
According to ASTM A213,the austenitic stainless steel are heat treated to remove the effects of cold forming or to dissolve precipitated chromium carbides. The surest heat treatment to accomplish both requirements is the solution anneal which is conducted in the 1850°F to 2050°F range (1010°C to 1121°C). Stainless steel cooling from the anneal temperature should be at sufficiently high temperature rates through 1500-800°F (816°C - 427°C) to avoid reprecipitation of chromium carbides.
304L Stainless Steel Tube are normally delivered in heat treated condition. If additional heat treatment is needed after further processing the following is recommended.
Stress relieving
850-950 °C (1560-1740 °F), cooling in air.
Solution annealing
1000-1100°C (1830-2010°F), rapid cooling / Quenching in water or Oil.
These materials cannot be hardened by heat treatment. More about Heat Treatment Heat Treatment Equipment
